Dan Conley

Dan Conley - Founder of Smart Learning School

Dan combines a strong foundation in Psychology from the University of Sheffield with a Master’s in Education and over two decades of experience in the education sector as a teacher and school leader. His academic foundation in learning, cognition, and development has underpinned a career focused on removing barriers to achievement and empowering students to excel.

His early achievements include leading initiatives that reshaped science curriculum design and pedagogy to promote STEM careers, then as Head of Psychology transforming departmental results to achieve outstanding recognition in Ofsted and HMI inspections.

 

His leadership in inclusion and alternative provision has been nationally celebrated, including:

 

  • Innovative Curriculum Design: Developing project-based learning frameworks that connect academic growth with real-world skills.

  • Inclusive Education: Creating programs grounded in attachment principles to support students with complex needs.

  • Strategic Leadership: Utilizing psychology-informed methods to improve attendance, behavior, and mental health outcomes.

  

As a Specialist Leader in Education (SLE), Dan has worked with schools across the UK to improve inclusion policies, safeguarding practices, and teacher training. His expertise in trauma-informed care and student well-being forms the foundation of Smart Learning School’s approach, ensuring every student receives the tools to thrive.

​​Smart Learning School was developed as a response to a growing crisis: increasing numbers of young people struggling with mental health challenges, exam anxiety, and the lack of explicit teaching on how to learn effectively. Dan recognised that many students know what they need to learn but are not equipped with the strategies that show them how.

Dan’s vision for Smart Learning School is simple: to apply cutting-edge psychological principles to create a smarter, more inclusive educational experience for everyone.
