Smart Learning School

Welcome! Smart Learning School is your guide to unlocking the potential of your mind in any walk of life. To get started, decide if you need help with preparation (Before Learning), selecting the right strategy (During Learning) or strengthening your memory, recall and application (After Learning)…

Before Learning

Before Learning

Welcome to the first stage of learning – preparation. If the foundations aren’t ready, there’s no point in building. Here we explore how to ready yourself to learn, as well as how to avoid the pitfalls of modern life that can steal concentration or cause learning to come ‘unstuck’…

During Learning

The main event – learning something new. Here you’ll learn strategies, tips, and techniques to ‘level up’ your learning, taking your learning skills to new heights. Explore new and ancient learning ‘hacks’, as well strategies to organise your thoughts.

These activities will encourage you to think about what you currently do that isn’t working, and needs to change!

After Learning

After Learning

So, you’ve learnt the new information or skill and now you need to be able to do it effortlessly.

This section aims to improve your memory capacity, recall speed and performance, transforming you from a learning novice to a memory master, saving you time and effort in the process. Some of the advice might also surprise you…

How it all works…

Smart Learning is for everyone – whether you’re a student trying to do well in an upcoming test, a tutor guiding a group through a study-skills programme, or an adult learner wanting to use psychology to improve your memory for everyday life. All it takes is a little natural interest in how your brain works and an open mind to take risks and try new things. Scientists call this Metacognition – the process of learning about learning!

Each page is designed around a theme and requires no background knowledge or preparation – just click on the introductory video and take it from there. Discussion points are designed to facilitate group conversations as a teacher or tutor but are also valuable reflection points if you’re here alone. Each time, you’ll be asked to think about how you currently learn and make one pledge to try something new. That’s it!

If you’re a school student…
